MYTHIC D6 status update

MYTHIC D6 update and my new BFF Brian Isikoff

MYTHIC D6 Status Report

Hello Everyone, remember me?

The books are almost to port!

Once they are through customs, they will be ships to the warehouse and distribution points. Once that’s all settled I can start shipping the books out to the backers.

I hope to have the process well on its way and done by the end of August. That’s my hope.

While I’m waiting for the book, I’m also working on other MYTHIC D6 project sand I hope to have all the stretch goals finished.

As an aside

I made the trip to the Bay Area to run a special game of MYTHIC D6 for Brian Isikoff. He was owed a game, and I was excited to run it.

Some may know Brian from his podcast 2D5 in a Random Direction

http://2d6feet.com/

And as promised, I ran a game of his choice using the MYTHIC D6 system. We settled on a Star Wars KotOR game, and it was a blast. I hope he enjoyed the game because I thoroughly enjoyed running it for him. We played upstairs at Endgame in Oakland (if you’re in the area check the store out).

It’s a great store, and I enjoyed Brian’s company immensely. He’s a great guy and a very clever role-player. When the game was over, I lamented that we didn’t live closer. He’s a great guy and always welcomed at any table I sit at. He’s a good human being with a tremendous amount of character and generosity. I appreciate him as a person, and I look forward to visiting again to hang out and talk some more.

What’s the status of MYTHIC D6?

MYTHIC D6 Status Report

Hello Everyone, remember me?

Jerry D. Grayson, Gold Medal winner of the 1996 Navel Stuffing Championship held in Muncie Indiana?

Skin tag eating bronze medal winner 1997?

Elbow lotion application champion 2003?

Arepa juggler silver medal winner 2010?

No?…fair enough, it was a long time ago. Ahhhh my heyday

Its been a while since I last updated you on MYTHIC D6. I’ve been busy putting the book together and making something presentable that everyone can enjoy. I’ve also been plugging away at Bastion, Terra Oblivion, and a few other projects.

I’m also sluggish, self-involved, and really enjoy watching B-Movies in my spare time…so there’s that.

What is the status of MYTHIC D6, what is going on with all that Kickstarter money? Well, beyond getting a cool tattoo of a manatee on my face, I’ve been buying art, paying editors, and doing the layout.

The book is done and at the printers…don’t believe me, look at what I got in the mail yesterday…

Geek Girls Rule! #432 – This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things

In case some are unaware, I’m involved with New Agenda Publishing. It’s a new publishing endeavor I’m excited about, and I hope once you learn more, you’ll be thrilled too.
I read this on the GEEK GIRLS RULE!!! Website today and it made me giggle but also offered some insight into what I’m about and more importantly, what NAP is about (yes, the acronym is intended)

“NEW AGENDA PUBLISHING is a consortium dedicated to promoting diversity in the RPG community through our hiring and choices. We want to amplify underrepresented voices and help them tell new stories from their perspective. We want to bring more people of color and especially women of color to the table, and we think the best way to do that is by hiring them to help us create the games and worlds they want to play in.”

geekgirlsrule's avatarGeek Girls Rule!!!

Ok, so for DECADES the clarion call of the cis het white dude nerd has been, “If you don’t like it, why don’t you make your own?!”  (Imagine me saying that in the whiniest, most nasally voice I can manage.  I still have a cold, I can get really nasally right now.)

So, a group of POC nerds did exactly that and founded New Agenda Publishing.

New Agenda is made up of Misha Bushyager, Jerry Grayson, and Eloy Lasanta.  All three of them have some serious game design cred, and I for one am super excited about their upcoming projects, whatever those might be.  If you want to check out their cred, follow the links, guys, I’m only doing so much homework for you tonight.  I’m still kinda sick.

Less than a month in, the whiny posts have already started on RPG.net, reddit and Enworld.  I…

I NEED WOMEN OF COLOR

Peanuts_MEI publish small independent tabletop roleplaying games and have done so since 2002. Whenever the subject of diversity comes up a handful of people of color are invoked as part of the community. If the RPG industry is the Peanuts Gang, I’m the Franklin, the black guy.

There is never a lot of us, and it’s usually the same people. Occasionally, a new guy will pop up, but it’s just that, a new GUY.

Where are the Black, Latina, Native American, Indian, and Middle Eastern women game designers, writers, artist, and publishers?

I know that women of color play roleplaying games, I see them at conventions and game gatherings. Sometimes they sit at my table and play. I know there are more than I’m seeing but I want to be aware of you all. I want to know you, be mindful of you, follow and support you.

With Khepera Publishing, my company, I can’t make a huge difference, but I’m willing to put money where my heart is and attempt it. I want to hire women to help write, illustrate, and design roleplaying games.  I want women to use what small resources, and knowledge I have to springboard into the industry and make a difference. I can’t offer much, but what little I have I’m fully committed to using.

Here is my agenda for reaching out-

I’m Not a Woman, But Hopefully, I Can Help.

There is an unfair power dynamic in the gaming industry that says they want diversity, but usually only old white, straight men make the hiring decisions. I want to infuse the RPG community with people that look like me and hopefully, in turn, make the landscape more inviting to People of Color. I can’t do this alone, and I’m not a woman. I can assume I know what women of color like, but I’m a man, and as good as my intentions may be, I’m sure women would do it better. I want to know what women want out of the hobby, and give them an avenue to share that voice.

Representative and Creative Diversity

I not only want Women of Color to work in the industry, but I also want them to have a vested interest in seeing the hobby flourish. I want to see Latina and Black women own their own RPG publishing companies, I want them to do the hiring, and I want them to create next level games. I want more Women of Color to have the power to affect this industry in a meaningful way.

Through Diversity Comes Strength

It’s an axiom that’s becoming a cliché, but a good cliché. It’s the truth. The more diverse the talent and creative people we have in the industry, the better. LGTBQA+, women, and people of color are the panacea for the RPG industry. I love being comfortable, but the pitfall is that encourages a homogenous culture and ultimately stagnation. I want something new that makes me challenge my assumptions and pushes me outside my own skin. I want to change who the protagonist is in the narrative; I want to change the commonly held belief in this industry and make this industry something better than what it is.

Voice and Agency

I want to help foster a safe place for women of color to have a voice and platform to do good work and to share their opinions.

All the above are my pie in the sky ideas. I may not be the best person for the job, but I hope someone out there reaches out to help me be better and the industry too.

I can’t promise the world, but I can promise to at least answer the door when you come knocking.

We cannot do it without you.

A look at Oblivion

Terra Oblivion

A game world built for use with the MYTHIC D6 system.

Terra Oblivion is a roleplaying game based on the artwork of Steven Sanders. Steven is an excellent artist with awe-inspiring artwork. With access to this artwork we just had to create a game world to do it justice. If you don’t know Stevens artwork, please check it out on his site.

What is Terra Oblivion?

A sci-fi fantasy game world where the only hope for salvation is humanity’s intrinsic link with flora and fauna of a once-verdant world.

And elite cadre of artist…

35I have John Vita working on art for the core book. Some of you may recognize his work from the ATLANTIS: Theragraphica sourcebook.

Behind the scenes, I’m working and collaborating with several artists (illustrators and writers) to get Bastion, Irin, and Terra Oblivion ready to go.  I’ve assembled an elite cadre of talent to give you the most bang for your buck, and I hope I live up to your expectations.

A RPG Public Service Announcement

The Kickstarter is healthy and doing well, but if you can help spread the word, that would be great. If not for me, do it for Johnny.

Here is my goal today, and I need your help.

Let see if we can share and get others to share the image below. My goal is 200 shares, and I think we can do that if everyone throws the link into their social media feeds. Let’s see how far we can get.

Please share
